In recent years, the growth rate of China's medical device market is much higher than the global growth rate, and its potential is huge. Last year, the global medical device market reached 425 billion US dollars, and the growth rate was stable at around 5%. The scale of China's medical device market reached 607 billion yuan.

In the industry, the market share is often speculated by the ratio of consumption of drugs to devices. In 2017, the global consumption ratio of medicines and equipment is 10:7, developed countries are 10:10.2, and China is only 10:3. It shows that there is still huge room for the development of China's medical equipment industry. “Urbanization, aging, and new medical reforms have brought huge market prospects. For example, in the old-age industry, more than 90% are consumed in medical devices.” Zhang Feng said.

"But the scale of China's medical device manufacturing enterprises is generally scattered, small and weak." Last year, there were 17,000 medical device enterprises in China, 85% of which had an annual output value of less than 20 million yuan, and the average output value of each enterprise was about 13.5 million. Yuan, large enterprises account for less than 2%. SMEs are still the main force in China's equipment industry.

"Small-scale 'combat' of medical device enterprises is difficult to fundamentally change in the short term, but the path of high-quality development of enterprises is gradually becoming clear, that is, 'into the circle'." This "circle" not only has enterprises, but also condenses scientific research and development. The most active high-end innovation resources in the industrial chain, such as production, investment, medical care, and supervision, form the medical device ecosystem, and promote the industrialization of domestic high-end medical devices and in vitro diagnostic reagents through resource integration and cross-border integration.

Medical devices are a collection of high-tech, electromechanical, biochemical, materials, genetic testing, optics, and radio physics. At present, we should seize the opportunity of the development of the industry to usher in the golden age, boldly take the road of medical and industrial integration, and let the industry, academia and research deep integration.

At the forum, the first-line clinicians as the key link in the industry chain, more involved in and even promoted medical device innovation, once caused heated discussions.

"Currently, the state is deepening the reform of the medical device review and approval system, and believes that the policy dividends that are continuously released will stimulate the innovation and entrepreneurial factors of the national machinery." Zhang Yuegang, a professor of physics at Tsinghua University, said that some regions have already tried the medical device registrant system. The separation of medical device manufacturers and technical parties, applicants can be enterprises, research and development institutions, scientific research personnel, doctors, etc., will inevitably stimulate the enthusiasm of more medical device innovation talents including doctors.
